We all know that buying car insurance is a must-do as soon as you purchase a new car. But do you know enough about this type of insurance to ensure that you get the best possible deal? The answer is probably not because there are a few important questions that many people fail to ask the insurance company before they take out a policy. Here they are!

What Type Of Cover Is On Offer?

There are different types of insurance cover that you can get for your car. The most popular are complete coverage and third party. If you get full coverage, then you are covered from anything. So, whether your car gets stolen or you have a crash and damage someone else’s car, your insurance will pay out. Of course, as everything is covered, you will find that these types of policies can be very expensive. The cheapest policy available is often third-party. This only covers you for damage you cause to a third party vehicle. So, if your car is stolen or you need to carry out some repairs on your own vehicle, you will need to pay for all of that out of your own money.

    What About Detariffication?

Previously, car insurance companies were limited to the prices that they set for their different policies and insurance products. However, now that detariffication has taken place, you will find that there are no restrictions on what companies can charge. So, it’s a good idea to speak to your insurance provider frankly to see whether this new detariffication policy will affect the prices of your premiums.

    What Is The Usual Excess?

An excess is a pre-agreed amount of money that you will have to put towards your car repairs before your insurance is paid out. For example, if you have an excess of $100 and your repairs cost $500, then you will need to pay the first $100. Once that has been paid, the insurance company will pay out the extra $400 needed to cover costs. More often than not, customers can choose their own excess amount. However, some companies set their own. It is important that you know what the excess is before you take out the policy so that you aren’t shocked when you are forced to foot part of the bill!

Do You Currently Have Any Special Deals Or Discounts Available?

It is always worth asking an insurance company if they have current deals or discounts that you can take advantage of. Insurance providers often have deals to try and attract new customers. These deals may also be open to current customers as well, but the company won’t be so proactive in letting current insurance holders know. So, every few months it’s worth giving them a call to see if there are any deals or discounts that you might be able to benefit from!

Car insurance doesn’t have to be confusing. If you ask all of these questions before you sign on the dotted line, you may even be happy with the insurance policy that you end up with!
