4 Ways Businesses Can Subtly Enhance Worker Productivity

There’s a lot of good that can come from having a productive workforce. Not only have studies shown that strong productivity leads to improved profitability and higher customer satisfaction, but there’s also evidence to suggest that it can result in enhanced employee retention rates, too.

In others, good work productivity levels are good for business.

Of course, wanting a productive workforce and actually having one are two different things. Happily, there are plenty of ways to subtly nudge your workforce’s productivity in the right direction. If you’re looking to boost output without having to reinvent the wheel, then take the following tips onboard.

    Add More Natural Light

Looking for a way to enhance employee happiness, make your business more attractive to potential team members, and increase productivity? Then look at increasing the amount of natural light that’s able to pass into your workplace. Studies have shown that employees who work in spaces with natural light are more focused, sleep better, and experience less eye strain and fatigue, all of which can help to increase productivity. Indeed, one study found that natural light can lead to a productivity increase of up to 40%.

    Review and Enhance Workplace Safety

Improving workplace safety helps to increase productivity in several direct ways, including minimizing potential disruptions and optimizing workflows.

But perhaps the most influential way it enhances productivity is by giving employees confidence that they’re physically safe, which allows them to simply focus on their work without worrying about their safety.

How you choose to improve your workplace safety will depend on the type of workplace. For warehouse/industrial environments, it could mean looking up PPE suppliers to get quality safety equipment for your team. If it’s an office environment, then it may simply mean decluttering the space and ensuring team members know what to do in the case of an emergency.

    Create a Psychologically Safe Workspace

Physical safety is rightly prioritized, but it’s not the only type of safety that employees should offer their workers. Ensuring the workplace is a psychologically safe space can also do wonders for a business’s productivity levels.

The reason? When employees feel welcome, included, and safe, they’re more likely to work efficiently rather than second-guess themselves. There are other advantages to creating a psychologically safe workspace, too, including improving employee retention and boosting brand reputation.

Create a Single Source of Truth

Productivity levels can skyrocket when employees are able to quickly access the information they need to perform their tasks. Alas, all too often, that’s not the case — just think about how much time is wasted all because an employee has to chase up the information they need. Developing a single source of truth (SSoT) can ensure that everyone at the organization has access to the information they need. They take time to build, but they can make a huge difference to an organization’s productivity levels. Instead of sifting through old email chains or waiting for a response from a colleague, they can simply access the SSoT and quickly find the right document.
