1. Product Quality Goes Down
Your products might be of great quality when they’re leaving your warehouse, but this just isn’t something you can guarantee on arrival if your packaging leaves a lot to be desired. Ripped or otherwise damaged packaging brings an especially high risk of product damage or breakage. Hence, the need to always seek strong, resilient packaging materials like poly mailers or reinforced corrugated cardboard that you know can withstand the entire shipping journey.
Product quality is especially at risk if you’re shipping perishable items like food, which can quickly spoil in the wrong packaging. In this instance, not only do you need to think about protection, but you also need to prioritise preservation, such as the moisture protection you can ensure when you source packaging from quality polythene manufacturers. Otherwise, your products will never be up to scratch.
2. Returns go Through the Roof
Naturally, the next thing you’ll notice is that your return rates suddenly start soaring. And what else could you expect if poor packaging means they’re barely usable on arrival? Not only will those products come back, but customers will probably be pretty annoyed. Instead of simply asking for a replacement that might arrive in the same state, they’ll probably want their money back.
Not only is this a logistical nightmare, but it means that you’ll be constantly compromising your cash flow. Let’s say you refund even 20% of your shipments each month. That’s a massive profit hit that, over time, is guaranteed to see you struggling unless you make improvements.
3. Customer Trust Takes a Hit
Even if your products are technically passable on arrival, what do you think happens when a customer sees packaging that’s been ripped to shreds? Well, they won’t think well of your brand, that’s for sure. That’s especially true if your packaging itself is quite clearly the problem.
Before you know it, you’ll be flooded with bad reviews and potentially even damning pictures of how poorly your packaging holds up. And do you think that new customers will choose to shop with you after that? Almost definitely not if they can find a higher-rated, more reliable competitor. Instead, you need to be sure of high-quality products with sturdy, reliable, a minimalist packaging that arrives as a shining accolade for your business, rather than becoming a big problem.
