Xbox Series X Or PS5? Deciding Between The Two

When it comes to the next generation of gaming, the two options that are at the forefront are the Xbox Series X from Microsoft and the PlayStation 5 from Sony. Due to the cost of these consoles, the average person is not going to be able to purchase both, and therefore has to choose between the two. But how can you be expected to do this? They both have their merits, and they both have things that you would likely seek to improve. You’ve got to make the choice though, otherwise, you will be left without either.

Deciding between the two can feel tough, and you might be wondering what you should be considering when trying to make this choice. In this article, we are going to take a look at some questions which should help you make a decision as to whether you want to purchase the PS5 or the new Xbox. Keep reading if you would like to find out more.

Do You Feel Loyalty To One Over The Other?

Many people who game have a preference as to whether they buy from Sony or Microsoft. If you do have this sense of loyalty to one over the other, then it seems like a pretty simple choice for you. Even though the other may look appealing in some aspects, if you’ve had let’s say all of the Xbox’s, then you’re probably going to want the new one. The only real reason that you wouldn’t stick with your loyalty would be if there were particular exclusives to the other console that you were desperate to play. If you think about the top video games to look forward to that are exclusive to one over the other, this might help you make a choice as to whether or not you are willing to switch loyalties. However, this is unlikely, and you’re probably going to stick with what you’ve always known.

It’s a very strange time to switch sides, but it is the next generation, so there is always that inclination to do so. There is always that part in your mind that will wonder if the other console is a little bit better than the one you’ve got right now. Having said that, though, if you don’t stick with the company that has had your loyalty for all this time, how are you going to feel about that? Is it worth it to more than likely be disappointed by the other console?

Is The Look Important To You?

Is the way that the console looks important to you? For some people, the aesthetic of things is super important, and if this is the case for you, then you need to look at the design of each and make a choice. The Xbox Series X has been likened to a mini-fridge by many people, with Microsoft even joining in on the joke on a few occasions. However, not everyone sees it this way, and even some people who do, don’t see it as a bad thing. It’s a personal preference thing here, so it’s entirely up to you.

The PS5 has a more sleek design and arguably looks a lot better. It doesn’t take up as much room and looks less like a big box than what Microsoft have produced. Again though, you may find the look of the Xbox appealing.

Backwards Compatibility

If backwards compatibility is important to you, then there isn’t much debate to be had here. While Microsoft have made sure that their new console is compatible with all the games of Xbox past, Sony have decided only to extend this courtesy to PS4 games. This is upsetting to a lot of people, and if you have old games that you would like to play, you won’t be able to do so with the PS5. Then again, if backwards compatibility is important to you, but you’ve always been loyal to Sony and the PlayStation meaning that you’ve only got PlayStation games, the backwards compatibility of the Xbox isn’t going to be much help to you.

Although, if there are some games from previous consoles that you would like to play, you can still purchase them and play them with the updated graphics of the Xbox Series X. This is a huge selling point because it allows people to play games from when they were younger, bringing that nostalgia aspect into play. PlayStation clearly haven’t thought this through as much as Microsoft have, otherwise they would have at least extended their range to the PS3. Though, there are certainly some games from the PS2 that we’re sure a lot of you wouldn’t mind being able to play again.

Standard Or Digital Editions

Both Microsoft and Sony have released two different versions of their consoles. Both of them have the standard edition, which uses discs and the digital edition. The standard edition for both is priced the same, where the digital editions differ slightly. The Xbox Series S is the digital edition and is 200 less than the original. PlayStation, however, are charging slightly more than the alternative for their digital edition, only knocking 100 off the price of the standard console. It is up to you as to whether you think this is worth it or not.

If you are someone who isn’t bothered about owning the physical game, then having the digital edition of either console isn’t going to be an issue. However, for some people, part of the experience is being able to have the disc in their hand. It depends how you see the experience and how much you want it. The games aren’t any cheaper when bought for digital download, so this isn’t something that you should even consider.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now understand some of the considerations that you should think about when choosing between the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Hopefully, when you get your console, you see that you have made the right choice for you! Enjoy.
