Seriously, there’s just something about a Bed and Breakfast that hits a little differently, right? As you know, it’s got that warmth and personality that big hotels keep trying to copy, but it never feels the same. Sure, grand hotels are an absolute blast, but that quaint feeling a B&B has, well, it’s just so cozy. Now, you need to keep in mind that guest expectations have levelled up so much these days.
Feel free to blame Instagram, blame boutique hotels, blame those dreamy travel influencers who make every weekend away look like a mini honeymoon, just blame it all. So, for the most part, people aren’t just booking a place to sleep anymore, they want the experience (both luxury and non luxury guests). And B and Bs are in this interesting spot now. The expectations are there, so how exactly can they even compete?
Guests Aren’t Booking Just for a Bed Anymore
People used to book a B and B because it felt homier and friendlier than a hotel, and yeah, who dosn’t love that charm? Now? Well, they want that same charm, but just more “oomph”. A chain hotel feels the same no matter the country or city. It’s clean, it’s predictable, it’s… fine. But yeah, it’s fine but fine isn’t memorable.
Plus, you should keep in mind that a B and B already has the storytelling advantage (boutiques do too, but rarely any major hotels unless theres histroy tied to it). So, bed and breakfasts are already very personal, and those luxury touches just makes it all the more thoughtful.
Luxury Shows Up in the Little Things
A lot of people hear “luxury” and instantly think, “Oh no, this means a huge renovation and ten thousand dollars worth of upgrades.” Which sure, that makes a lot of sense to assume that, it really does. Now, for the most part, it really doesn’t need to be that expensive. Believe it or not, but luxury isn’t always the big flashy things. Sure, those are great, people love those, but it’s not the only thing. It’s the tiny upgrades that make someone feel a bit spoiled.
Like the soft bedding, towels, the robe, and of course the breakfast (can’t forget about that). And, yeah, presentation matters, no one wants their luxury breakfast to look something they’d get from a diner. They want real naptkins, silver plated bowls, a pretty look table scape, even the presentation of the food (which actually isn’t as challenging as it sounds).
It’s All in Those Little “Oh Wow” Moments
What was mentioned above would be consider that too. Alright so guests might forget the exact muffin they ate (unless it was the best muffin they’ve ever ate), but they don’t forget how the stay made them feel. And so those tiny rituals make a huge difference. Again, they’re small, like a little welcome treat waiting in the room, or maybe a cute mini tea setup instead of instant sachets that taste like sadness (far from elegant).
Actually, you can take it a step further (and technically cheaper), just by playing some soft music during breakfast (but a live performance always help if you have the funds). And don’r forget about a handwritten local recommendation instead of a generic print-out, that feels super special too.
